At 141 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Kalona to near Cotter to near New London, moving northeast at 50 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Iowa City, Muscatine, Washington, West Branch, Wapello, Columbus Junction, West Liberty, Kalona, Wellman, Lone Tree, Winfield, Riverside, Fruitland, Wayland, Hills, Brighton, Ainsworth, Grandview, Conesville, and Columbus City. This includes Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 249 and 265. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. To report severe weather contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service office in the Quad Cities. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding.
