What to Do During a Tornado Warning

Use this checklist before an emergency. During an active incident, local instructions take priority.

1. Go immediately to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows.
2. Protect your head and neck. Keep sturdy shoes, a flashlight and a way to hear official updates with you.
3. Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe shelters. Identify a sturdy shelter before severe weather arrives.
4. Do not shelter beneath a highway overpass. Follow National Weather Service instructions for your location.
