What to Do During a Flash Flood

Use this checklist before an emergency. During an active incident, local instructions take priority.

1. Move to higher ground when officials advise, and leave promptly if told to evacuate.
2. Never walk, swim or drive through floodwater. Turn around at flooded roads and respect barriers.
3. If trapped in a building, move to its highest level. Avoid a closed attic where rising water can trap you.
4. Monitor local alerts. Stay away from damaged power lines and return only when authorities say it is safe.
