Use this checklist before an emergency. During an active incident, local instructions take priority.

  1. Spend time in air-conditioned places and identify nearby cooling centers before temperatures rise.
  2. Drink fluids regularly and reduce strenuous activity in the hottest part of the day. Follow your clinician’s advice if you have fluid restrictions.
  3. Check on neighbors and people who may need help. Never leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle.
  4. If someone is confused, collapses or may have heat stroke, call emergency services and begin cooling while help arrives.
